BIMSTEC stands for Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation. It is a regional organization formed in 1997 to promote economic and technical cooperation among countries around the Bay of Bengal.

  • BIMSTEC Free Trade Area Framework Agreement (BFTAFA): has been signed and Trade Negotiating Committee has been appointed for negotiation
  • BIMSTEC Coastal Shipping Agreement: for faster, cost effective and sustainable movement of cargo once approved
  • Centres for tourism, climate monitoring & energy have been setup at Delhi, Noida & Bengaluru respectively
